In what has been described by the government as 'an unprecedented move', Whirpool is under instruction to recall 500,000 faulty tumble driers which were sold between 1st April 2004 and 30th September 2015 and which may pose a fire hazard. Blind cords can be lethal for small children. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, there have been at least 33 deaths across the UK due to looped cords since 1999. Their research also indicates that most accidental deaths involving blind cords happen in the bedroom and occur in children between 16 months and 36 months.
